Pinspiration (inspiration via Pinterest!) - Embellishments

I love embellishments as a way to finish off clothes and homewares. It is also such a fun thing to do to add that unique touch to your item. Here are some of my favourites from Pinterest:

Beaded neckline - I love those colours on the white fabric

Lots of ideas for grommets. Definitely something to look for in the craft shops! There are lots more lovely grommet ideas if you follow the link...

Extraordinary holes - I just think these are awesome. I would like to try them on a cushion cover.

Reverse freezer paper stencilling - cool idea

Reverse applique - adorable (and simple) use of reverse applique. Must try this!

Distressed stencilling - with two boys of my own, this is also a 'must try' project!

I hope you are inspired to try something.

Rusty rake jewellery organiser

Inspired by an idea I saw on Pinterest a while back, I made a necklace holder from a gorgeous old rusty rake.

I had bought the rake from someone on Gumtree. It came with a bonus hoe (not quite sure what I want to do with that yet) for only $7. It was a young guy selling them and he gave me such an odd look when I said what I planned to do with the rake. I bet he'd be jealous now if he saw it!!

So, while the boys were outside hygenically making fresh lemonade on the front steps (hey I'm sure all that citric acid will kill any germs, right?)...

...I set to work on my rake.

This is it 'before', complete with spider webs.

I gave it a wash then found some ribbon and tied it through the hole on the back. I secured the ribbon with some wool wrapped around the bit where the stick goes (stop me if I'm getting too technical). Then I glued a bit of felt to the back to protect the wall. It was the quickest project ever, so much so that I felt sure I couldn't be finished and tried to find more to do!

I think it looks rather sweet - and it will certainly be very useful.

You can see the felt on the back here

So...now for some of that lemonade...

Hemming Pinspiration (inspiration via Pinterest!)

OK, a simple fold-over hem is fine on many garments, but I love something a bit different. I have collected a few different hemming ideas to inspire me when I want the something extra special.

Scalloped pleated hem

Structured hem

Sheer and stripy

Broad hem

Handstitched detail

Lettuce hem

Ruffled hem detail

Lattice hem

Peek-a-boo ruffled hem

I love these. Can't wait to get started making something with a feature hem  ♪ ♫ ♩ ♬

Refashion pinspiration (inspiration via Pinterest!)

I joined Pinterest about three months ago and I LOVE it. When I joined I spent a bit of time putting all my internet bookmarks with inspirational crafty and sewing pictures on to Pinterest. Now I just add any inspirational pictures, interesting tutorials etc. straight on to Pinterest into various categories that I have created: refashion, kids, for the home etc.. Anytime I need some ideas I just go to the appropriate pin board(s) and those creative juices just can't help but to flow! So much better than a list of boring bookmarks.

I thought I'd make a regular feature of sharing some of my Pinterest inspiration. My Pinspiration!

To begin, here are some of my favourite refashion ideas (you can see my entire 'Refashion' Pinterest board here):
