Jalie jacket 2679

It was my Mum's birthday this week and I decided to make her presents this year. I had intended to just make her a Style Arc top (pictures to come), but at the last minute I decided I had time to do this jacket as well. This was made using Jalie 2679. I have had this pattern for a few months and have been itching to use it.

I made a size smaller that I would usually use as my mum is shorter and smaller than me. I also increased the hem on the sleeves and lower edge so it would be shorter and fit her better. When I make myself one of these, I'll make it a tad longer.

To add a bit of interest, I made the side panels and inside collar from this patterned knit fabric.

This is a really nice pattern. I love all the different panels, which look good in the same fabric, but also could be mixed up with different fabrics for lots of different looks.

I had all the family over for Mum's birthday dinner last night and gave her the jacket then. She loved it and it fit really well. I was quite chuffed that it took her a few minutes to even realise that I'd made it! My sister said she didn't know how I could be bothered sewing all the panels and details of this jacket. Well I might be a weirdo, but I loved choosing the fabrics for this and then putting it all together. It's exciting seeing how it looks at all the various stages and I enjoy taking the time to do the topstitching and details that make it look RTW (ready to wear - like a bought one!). This was not a difficult pattern at all. The hardest part was the pocket zips and that was mainly because I used the patterned fabric there and it wanted to unravel. Fleece would have been easier. I made the internal pocket lining from mesh fabric, which looked great (no pic, sorry).

Note that the jacket I'm wearing here was shortened from the suggested length in the pattern so it would fit my little mother. The sleeves are also shortened and made into cuffs rather than having a 1 inch hem as specified in the pattern.


I'm so pleased with this jacket and I can't wait to make one for me. Now I just have to decide what colours and fabrics I'll choose....
