I downloaded this cute little free 'Sorbetto Top' pattern from Collette Patterns ages ago and then forgot all about it. Then I saw one somewhere in blogland and thought it would be a perfect top to make for summer. I bought some polka dot fabric on sale in Textile Traders. It's a light, flowing, woven fabric, just right for this pattern.
To add a bit of interest, I made bias binding from some scraps of blue gingham which was left over from trimming my scout blanket. This was used to finish the neckline and arm holes.
I cut out this top approximately 5cm longer than indicated in the pattern, but when I'd finished it I decided it was still too short. After wearing it once, I decided to add some length. I did this by unpicking the original hem and sewing on a folded band of fabric. Before adding this hem band I decided to open out the front fold. I kept the fold stitching in place from the neckline to the bustline and then left the remainder to drape open. This is quite a nice alternative to having the fold all the way down the front, which I would have kept if I hadn't lengthened the top.
This is a flattering top which is easy to make using the clear pattern instructions. It lends itself to many interpretations using different fabrics and by making little tweaks to the pattern. I'm sure I will be making more of these :)

Ah polka dots, gotta love em! It's so funny I printed out the Sorbetto when it first came out and it's still sitting there uncut. Then I go and buy the Tiny Pocket Tank from Grainline which is probably fairly similar. I really do need to give this a go, seen so many lovely versions around, including yours now.
