Smocked/shirred top refashion in 20 minutes

I recently bought a Zara top in the op shop (thrift store) for $5. It is made from lovely floaty fabric in different green patterns, but it is actually a bit big on me and I found myself putting it on to wear, only to look in the mirror and take it off again. The loose, full style just didn't feel flattering and the length was not quite right.

So I decided to smock the lower panel of the top above the hem. I used my 'cheat's' shirring technique and it was finished in no time.

I think it's much more flattering now and the patterned fabric hides the slightly wonky lines of stitching! I did four lines of shirring. I probably could have done with a few more, but for now I'll enjoy my 'new' top :)
